Icons Only jewellery is made to premium standards, using recycled eco brass and recycled sterling silver base metals with high quality 14k gold and sterling silver micron plating.
All of our plated pieces contain an extra tarnish-resistant clear coating (E-coating) on top to maximise the lifespan of the jewellery.
However, just like your favourite silk slip and dry-clean only blazer, all good quality products still need a little bit of tender loving care.
The more intentional you are about caring for your jewelry, the longer it will last.
Always remove your jewelry before doing any activity that risks physical damage.
As a general care tip, your jewelry should be the last thing you put on before going out and the first thing you remove upon coming home.

CARE GUIDE BY MATERIAL

925 Sterling Silver

925 Sterling Silver is a lightweight metal made of 92.5% pure silver. It’s highly durable and designed for everyday wear.
How to store sterling silver jewelry
Store in a safe, dry place to protect from the elements of daily exposure.
How to clean sterling silver jewelry
Proactive maintenance is the best way to prolong the lifespan of sterling silver.
Clean by wiping with a soft, dry cloth. To remove tarnish, buff gently with a silver polishing cloth.
Ultrasonic cleaners are safe to use on silver jewelry.
Please note: If you’re wearing pieces made of oxidized silver, they must be cleaned differently. Oxidized silver products have a special finish, so we recommend a dry clean with no water or silver cleaning polish; otherwise, the finish may rub off entirely.

14k Gold Vermeil

Not to be confused with regular gold plating, our vermeil is a thick layer (at least 2.5 microns) of 14k solid gold on sterling silver. It lasts longer than regular gold plating and provides the look and feel of gold jewelry at a fraction of the price.
What to know about wearing gold vermeil jewelry
Vermeil will naturally tarnish over time, especially when exposed to environmental factors like air pollution, moisture, and items that contain sulfur, however it is easy to restore the shine of gold vermeil jewelry with proper care and maintenance.
How to store gold vermeil jewelry
Store in a safe, dry place—such as an anti-tarnish pouch or case. This will help to protect your pieces when they are not being worn.
How to clean gold vermeil jewelry
Proactive maintenance is key. To keep tarnish from setting in, clean your pieces regularly by wiping them with a soft, dry cloth.
Please note: Polishing cloths can be abrasive, so apply gentle pressure and don’t over-polish. Do not use steam cleaners or ultrasonic cleaners on vermeil jewelry.

Gold & Silver Plated

Some of our pieces are made from recycled eco brass with 14k gold and sterling silver plating. Our plating thickness is at least 10x thicker than standard, and we use physical vapour deposit (PVD) plating techniques to ensure longevity of our jewellery plating.
What to know about wearing gold and silver plated jewelry
Tarnishing occurs when metals react with chemicals causing oxidisation, so please be careful to avoid chemicals that might cause a reaction and clean your jewellery regularly. Our jewellery is safe to wear in water, however for the longevity of your jewellery we advise against it.
How to clean gold and silver plated jewelry
- Lightly wipe your jewellery with a soft cloth, such as a micro fibre cloth, after each wear to remove any unwanted chemicals on the surface of your jewellery. It is important to do this before putting your jewellery away for storage.
- Only polish with a jewellery cloth if you have tarnishing concerns.
- Take care not to over polish plated objects as you may remove the plating.
It is essential that you clean your jewellery and avoid chemicals, as tarnishing is not considered a fault. Our jewellery must come into contact with chemicals for tarnishing to occur, and this will not be covered by our warranty.
